April 1 (no foolin'!) is the first day of "Colors of the Pacific Northwest," open through May at Sequim Museum and Arts, 11-4 Wednesday-Saturday and from 5 to 8 on the first Friday of each month. Entrance is complimentary. Several of us Peninsula Fiber Artists members will be on hand at the First Friday art walks and throughout April and May when tour groups visit. Some of us will be selling small items (origami-embellished note cards in my case) and others will simply be on hand to explain inspiration, materials and techniques.
A glimpse at what is being created or exhibited on the Olympic Peninsula and in the greater Seattle area.

Coming Soon in Port Townsend
What fun can you have with another artist's discards? That's what we at Peninsula Fiber Artists discovered this winter, when we anonymously swapped bags of unfinished objects, unloved materials or projects we were ready to pass on. Come April, you can see the results of our adventures at the Fiber Habit walk-by exhibit at 675 Tyler in uptown Port Townsend. Many of the projects are for sale.
Below is a glance at the pieces in the bag I received. The batik at lower right became the front of a tote bag, with the back sewn from the purpose at lower left ($35). The piece in the middle, a sort of "confetti," became the front of a clutch-style bag ($35). The handmade papers were mounted on a black-painted canvas and embellished with an origami kimono folded from paper I had painted myself ($50). (Yes, the rules allow us to supplement the UFO materials with stuff from our own stash.)
